Alexander K. Chin, MD
Kaiser Permanente South Bay
Chief Medical Advisor, Kaiser Permanente School of Anesthesia
Clinical Faculty, California State University, Fullerton

I am a second-generation anesthesiologist. I attended grand rounds at UC San Francisco with my father from the time I was in high school. I always knew I wanted to be a physician and started as a hospital volunteer in high school. Later, I worked summers and evenings during the school year at Kaiser Permanente as an anesthesia technician. I finished my undergraduate studies in three years from Stanford University and took another year to pursue a master’s degree in Biological Sciences. While at Stanford, I worked as a graduate school teaching assistant. I was also active with the Stanford Asian American Students Association and served as a Senator on the Stanford Senate Graduate Student Council. I graduated with Honors and Distinction and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. At Stanford I was involved in research on high altitude physiology and on hemoglobinopathies in the Vietnamese Refugee population.

I attended medical school and completed my anesthesia residency at UC San Francisco. I continued to be active in the Asian professional student organizations as well as the American Medical Students Association. I was President of AMSA during my time at UCSF and participated in lobbying for health issues in Washington, DC. While at UCSF, I was involved in research on thermo-regulation during anesthesia. I also received a grant from Chinese Hospital of SF and presented my research on obstetrical outcomes in the SF Chinese population.
